January's Discover Box

It's absolutely no secret how much I love tea. I recently bought a print from DotCreates which reads "A good cup of tea makes everything better" and I don't know about you but I've never heard a truer word spoken. It really does!

Last month I shared with all you fellow tea lovers, the perfect monthly subscription box. The response was incredible, I never knew how many of us tea-lovers there really were. So, when the lovely Joss emailed me last month and explained she'd sent out January's Discovery Box I was genuinely so excited!

December's box was filled with festive flavours, I couldn't wait to see what the guys had in store for January.

January's Discover Box

As you can see January's Discovery Box is filled with 6 more wonderful tea samples to help you recover from the festive season. We've got;
  • Matcha Green Tea
  • Recover Tea
  • Reggae Refresh
  • Gunpowder Tea
  • Pure Ceylon
  • Rooibos
Upon opening the box I was instantly drawn to Reggae Refresh, it has actual fruit pieces in!! I've also heard a lot about Matcha Green Tea so I was genuinely so excited to finally be able to try some and find out what all the hype was about.

I've been feeling pretty run down recently, though. Adult life is stressful and I've had the most annoying cough and cold you could imagine so the first tea I decided to try was the Recover Tea by Blendology. It's described as:
Dubbed the perfect detox and hangover remedy, this handcrafted blend of herbs were chosen for their detoxifying properties to improve general health and wellbeing.
The ingredients include, nettle leaf, peppermint leaf, burdock root, dandelion root and artichoke leaf. I'll be honest I wasn't immediately sure on the artichoke as I'm not a huge fan of anything with an aniseed taste but you honestly couldn't taste it. I was immediately hit by the faint peppermint scent which I was expecting to be so much strong!

The taste.. Well it tasted like it smelt and it was surprising quite nice. The peppermint was very mild which I liked and I definitely felt a little refreshed after drinking it.

The next sample I tried was the Matcha Green Tea. I was so excited! I've heard green tea is really good for you and Matcha is one of the strongest I believe correct me if I'm wrong I've seen Youtubers do a shot of Matcha first thing in the morning and their reactions, didn't fill me with too much joy I must admit.
This Japanese Ceremonial Grade Matcha Green Tea is cerified organic and groud form the first harvest tea crop. It's vibrant green in colour, sweet in aroma and smooth and earthy in flavour, with no bitterness!
Now in my honest opinion, nothing edible or drinkable should be green or orange but I followed the instructions on the brewing slip. 1/2 teaspon to 1/2 cup of hot water and whisked for 30 seconds. Give it a good whisk because if you don't you'll end up with a lot of Matcha powder at the bottom of your cup like I did... My bad!

But do you know what? I actually really enjoyed it. Yes the colour is slightly off putting but it smelt incredible, completely not what I was expecting and it tasted just like a cup of tea. Which, I realise sounds very strange but I guess I was expecting to it be super bitter or very 'green' - 100% this is something I could happily drink every morning.

Now for my favourite in the January Discovery Box. Reggae Refresh by Born Wild Tea. It has actual fruit pieces in it, how cool is that? It includes, apple, papaya, mango, lemon grass, ginger, banana chips, (banana, coconut oil, cane sugar and honey) goji berries, lavender, natural flavours.

It's described as:
This light and refreshing fruit infusion is sure to get you taste buds tingling. Fair trade and full of punch, this exotic blend of fruity goodness makes for a relaxing and refreshing naturally caffeine free brew that's perfect hot or cold.
And they're not wrong. I decided to try the tea hot but I can imagine it would make an incredible Ice cold tea in the summer and I can't wait to try it! You're instantly hit with the aroma of papaya and mango which really does make your mouth water.

You're advised to steep this tea for 3-4 minutes which I generally found a challenge in itself. This may far is my favourite from both boxes of Teatourist* so far. Be sure to check December's box if you haven't already.
