What I Thought Of The Luna Cinema

Lydiard House, Swindon

When Doubletree by Hilton sent me a private message on Facebook back in July to say I had won 2 tickets to an exclusive cinema experience, I could not believe it!

I don't know why, but it is something I have always wanted to do.

I passed on all the relative information and was told someone would be in touch. A few days later the lovely Georgia emailed me with farther information, a link to The Luna Cinema website where all the screenings were listed. All we had to do was decide on a film and location.

Seems easy right? No! We first looked at the 2 closest locations to us which weren't playing films we were either not interested in seeing or we're seen before. We soon came to realise that most, if not all, screenings were for films we'd seen before so the next step was to decide on which of those films we'd love to see again.

Some of our options were; Ghostbusters, The Goonies, Back To The Future, Jaws and many more. When we looked into our options closer, I noticed there was a Ghostbusters screening at Lydiard House in Swindon the day before S' birthday. PERFECT!

He'd booked the week off work anyway and with some fluttering eyes, he managed to get an extra day off so we were heading down to Swindon for the Ghostbusters screening on Sunday 13th August! Apologises its taken me so long to write this post.

We found a great deal with a Premier Inn and left nice and early for our 2 hour 15 minute drive down to Swindon which, turned out to be really pleasant. The sun was out, the sky was blue and Absolute Radio had some great songs playing - What more could we want?

We arrived at our Premier Inn around half an hour before our check-in time but the lovely lady at the desk allowed us to check in early, as well as recommended some places we should check out. We went up to our room to cool off and make a plan!

Fast forward to 7pm and we arrived at Lydiard House, it took a little while to figure out the parking system and S had forgotten our drinks and movie snacks but other than that it was super easy to find. We followed a sandy path which lead you through the trees and there is stood, Lydiard House, absolutely beautiful!

The Luna Cinema

I would definitely love to visit Lydiard House again and actually have a wander round but the grounds surrounding it were stunning!

As you can see, it wasn't hard to find where we needed to go, as The Luna Cinema screen was set up right in front of Lydiard House.

We collected our 'premium tickets' and complimentary drinks vouchers from the warm welcoming staff at the entrance, who also gave us a complimentary chocolate and walnut cookie which was devine! and was escorted to our directors chairs at the front of the crowd.

The Luna Cinema experience

As we walked toward the entrance to collect our tickets, we overheard an announcement say there was a mini competition to win the chance of being upgraded and getting to watch the film from the comfort of a king size bed, with complimentary drinks and snacks.

The instructions to enter were included in the complimentary cookie we were given upon entering so as I was reading the instructions, S went off and got his complimentary drink before joining me in a hilarious selfie session.

So I uploaded our selfie to Instagram and then went for a wander to explore the bar and food.
There were incredible looking pizzas on offer with the guys at Sicilia Roots. I really wish I'd ordered us a pizza, they looked incredible but we had just eaten at Beefeater so I was totally not hungry.

The guys from Estella Damn had joined forces with The Luna Bar to offer a wide selection on drinks, including soft drinks, hot drinks and of course, alcoholic beverages! I opted for a coke and made my way back to S'.

But not before I climbed into the giant Luna Cinema deck chair for a picture. Kindly taken by one of the lovely stewards.

By the time I'd found S again, he was itching to go pay one of the many Pokemon Gyms a visit and as the film hadn't started yet I agreed he could go for a wander as long as he was back in time.

And he was. Just in time for the announcement as to who was lucky enough to have won the upgrade with Doubletree by Hilton....

Unbeknown to us,
we had won!!!!

We were completely oblivious, in utter shock and not believing our selfie was being projected onto the screen in front of a fair few hundred people. The couple beside us were screaming, the family in front of us turned round screaming and the family to the left of us, all screaming "Congratulations!! That's you! That's you!"

Even as I write this blog post. As I sit thinking back to what happened, I still can't believe it and before we could fully digest what was happening two very lovely stewards escorted us from our directors chairs through the crowd to the kingsize bed.

Our view

What a way to kick off the birthday celebrations for S. I honestly can not believe it! It was so unexpected, so unbelievably incredible to not only watch S' favourite film under the stars but to be snuggled up in what was one of the comfiest beds I've ever lied on and that blanket was so very much appreciated as the cold night air approached towards the end of the film!

I just want to say a massive thank you to the guys at Doubletree by Hilton for firstly, giving us the opportunity to attend The Luna Cinema. It's not a company I've heard of before but will most definitely be keeping an eye on for future events. A massive thank you to the guys at The Luna Cinema for giving us such a warm welcome and looking after us from the time we arrived to the time we left. It really was such an incredible night!
As far as I am aware there are still a few screenings across the UK for this summers The Luna Cinema experience so if this is something you'd be interested in checking out and I highly highly recommend that you do. Head on over to The Luna Cinema website and book your tickets now!

You won't regret it!
