3 jars of chutney from The English Provender Co.

With Christmas just around the corner, I think it's safe to say a lot of us find ourselves rushing around in the weeks leading up to the big guys visit. Whether it's out buying Christmas presents, organising family get togethers or meeting up with friends you've not seen much throughout the year for a cheeky glass of wine (or two).
This year, more than ever, I feel as if 2017 has flown by. I know we all say it and it's become such a cliche but I genuinely feel like 2017 didn't really have chance to start before it was over. I haven't even started my Christmas shopping yet!

I'm always on the look out for unique gifts though to give my loved ones at Christmas, something a little more special than a typical gift set not that there is anything wrong with that, something more personal and suits the recipent.

So when Julie from The English Provender Company got in touch and asked if I'd like to recieve 3 of their popular chutneys to try and consider for my Christmas Gift Guides, I jumped at the chance. S' parents, are like me, absolutely love cheese and chutneys as does my mum so I instantly knew there would be something for everyone, and I couldn't help salivating while reading the recipes featured in the email I recieved.

Julie very kindly sent not one, or two full sized jars of the famous The English Provender Co.* chutneys but 3 full jars. One of each flavour!!

I was surprised to learn The English Provender Company* have been around for over 40 years soucing inspiration from the best and creating their own timeless classics in their *current limited* line of chutney's and pickles. Perfect to add those extra delicious flavours to your sandwiches, compliment your cheeseboard and even add an extra bit of spice!

First impressions on the label design, the Graphic Designer in me instantly squealed inside at the cuteness of each label design. It may not mean much to the average person but I absolutely love the simplisity yet classiness of the designs from the placing of the imagery to the fonts that have been used. I love it!

Trying Caramelised Red Onion Chutney from The English Provender Co.

The first jar I was excited to crack open and try was the Caramelised Red Onion chutney*.

A traditional classic in my onion. A household favourite some would be too scared to attempt to recreate and one we often see in the supermarkets. A popular choice I feel.

The English Provender Co.*, honestly, have done an incredible job recreating this classic. It's got all the delicious flavours of a typical Caramalised Onion chutney* with the sweetness from the red onions, it's so full of flavour and works really well with the mild chedder cheese I partnered it with.

This was by far my favourite from the three flavours and one I would definitely love to experiment with in further recipes!

The second flavour I was curious about trying was the Plum and Apple*. I've said it a few times, I'm much more a savoury person to sweet when it comes to foods and snacks so I don't think I've ever tried a fruit chutney before but I was excited to taste the mix of flavours.

And it did not disappoint. I'll be hoenst, it's probably my least favourite flavour out of the three jars but please do not let that put you off. If you're more into fruity flavours this chutney could be for you! It's full of flavour, a little more apple than plum but I think teamed with the right cheese could work really well! I think it could even work with a meat such a pork. A different condiment to the traditional apple sauce.

The Hot Chilli and Red Pepper chutney* came a very tight second. The flavours are incredible! You're instantly hit by the sweetness of the red pepper but the savouriness from the cheese and crackers cuts through that so the chutney isn't overly sweet but than there's an amazing hint of spice coming from the chillis. Definitely a winner for anyone that loves a bit of spice and a perfect winter warmer on these colder days because don't we know it, winters on the way!

Overall I am impressed. A huge thank you to Julie from The English Provender Company* for getting in touch and sending over some samples for me to try. I will most definitely be picking up a few of these to put away for Christmas presents!

You can find all three flavours as well as a few others all on The English Provender Co.* website, as well as a list of their pickles and a list of supermarkets you can find their products available at. Prices vary at participating supermarkets.
