Our First BBQ

One thing I've been looking forward to doing since the festive period was over, was enjoying our first summer in our new home (how has it been 10 months since I moved out?!) and having our very first BBQ!!
Last month saw me attend the BBC Good Food Show Summer event down at the NEC Birmingham all thanks to the lovely Lorna from Crane's Drinks*, who not only very kindly invited me along to the show but also gifted me 3 bottles of the Crane's ciders. Be sure to check out my blog post and find out why I was left slightly disappointed by this years show!

Crane's Drinks*, for those of you that don't know, is a brand new cider company owned by twin brothers Dan and Ben who after graduating from university set out to brew their very own cider made from... wait for it... CRANBERRIES!

I know, I couldn't believe it either!

Cranes ciders currently come in 3 different flavours Cranberries and Limes, Blueberries and Apples and Raspberries and Pomegranates. Not to mention a Cranberry and Blood Orange Liqueur, which I missed out on trying at the BBC Good Food Show but S said it was incredible!

Now I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a great deal about ciders. I know it's usually made from apples or pears and I know it's delicious! What I didn't know was that it could also be made from cranberries, which apparently makes it slightly more healthier.

What I want to know is, does it count as one of my 5 a day yet?!

Cranes Drinks

I love nothing more than enjoying a nice chilled cider in the sunshine so waiting for the perfect summery day to open up a bottle of Cranes was really important to me. It also wasn't as easy as I thought thanks to the great British weather but we got there in the end!

Que spontaneous mini BBQ!
*Yes, they are Christmas paper plates because we didn't have any others... #noshame

Cranes Drinks

Cranes Drink

I left S in charge of the food while I cracked open the Cranberries and Limes.

My all-time favourite flavour of cider is Strawberry and Lime by a very well known Swedish brand, no names mentioned, so I had high hopes for this! Usually, I find cranberry juice to be quite dry, but this was so different! Most ciders I've tried have that slight fizz once opened and drank, it was instantly noticeable that Cranes Ciders* didn't have that at all which made for a much smoother, refreshing taste.

Raspberries and Pomegranate was probably the favourite I was most looking forward to, having recently fell in love with Pomegranate seeds and this did not disappoint at all. I sometimes feel raspberries can often be slightly overpowering, but this had a nice balance of the two flavours. Again, there was no fizz but didn't spoil the taste whatsoever. It makes it slightly easier to drink and enjoy - Just because you don't drink it too fast as Cranes Ciders* are all 4% proof.

Blueberries and Apples was one I was a little unsure of. I'll be honest, I'm yet to be convinced of the wonders of Blueberries. To me, they don't really have much taste. I find them a little plain, they're like very boring grapes but teamed with apples it really gave off a nice cool crispness and a really enjoyable refreshment on a hot summers day!

Overall I am pleasantly surprised by all three flavours. I think Cranberries and Limes is my overall favourite of the three, S didn't really get much of a taste because I selfishly kept them all to myself. Way too good to share!

If you'd like to get your hands on your own bottle of Cranes or even find out a little more about the company and the twins make sure you head on over to their website, give them a little follow on Twitter and a cheeky little like on Facebook

And finally, I want to say a huge thank you to the lovely Lorna once again for not only inviting me down to the BBC Good Food Show but also gifting me 3 bottles of Cranes Cider to try. I look forward to working with Lorna and the Twins in the future!
